Shireen Abu Akleh was a Palestinian-American journalist who worked as a correspondent for Al Jazeera for 25 years. She was one of the most recognised and trusted faces in Arab journalism, seen as a role model for Palestinian and Arab women. On 11 May 2022, she was shot in the head by Israeli forces while wearing a press vest and covering an IDF raid on Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. Multiple independent investigations confirmed the shot came from Israeli positions. No one has been held accountable.
