Journalist The Sunday Times Syria Homs, Syria American

Marie Colvin was an American war correspondent for The Sunday Times of London. Over a career spanning three decades, she reported from the world’s most dangerous conflict zones including Chechnya, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, East Timor, and Sri Lanka, where she lost the sight in her left eye to a Sri Lankan army grenade in 2001. She continued reporting, wearing a distinctive black eye patch. In February 2012, she entered the besieged city of Homs in Syria to document the shelling of civilians. On 22 February, the media centre she was working from was targeted by Syrian government artillery. She was killed alongside French photographer Remi Ochlik.
