James Foley

James Foley was an American freelance journalist who reported from conflict zones including Libya and Syria. He was kidnapped in northern Syria in November 2012 while reporting for GlobalPost and Agence France-Presse. He was held captive for nearly two years before being executed by Islamic State militants in August 2014. He had previously been captured and detained in Libya in 2011 and continued returning to conflict zones because he believed the stories needed to be told.
