Jamal Khashoggi was a Saudi journalist, author, and former editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News Channel. He became a prominent critic of the Saudi government and a contributing columnist for the Washington Post. On 2 October 2018, he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain paperwork for his upcoming marriage. He was murdered and dismembered by a team of Saudi operatives inside the consulate. Multiple investigations concluded the operation was authorised at the highest levels of the Saudi government. No senior official has been meaningfully held accountable.
