Fatima Hassouna was a 25-year-old Palestinian artist and photojournalist. She documented the impact of the war on civilians in Gaza through her photographs, working under bombardment and gunfire. On 16 April 2025, she was killed in an Israeli airstrike on her home in northern Gaza, along with 10 members of her family including her pregnant sister. A documentary about her life in Gaza had been announced for screening at a festival running parallel to Cannes just 24 hours before the strike.
