Journalist Independent Malta Bidnija, Malta Maltese

Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist and blogger who reported on political corruption, money laundering, and organised crime in Malta. She was a key figure in the Panama Papers investigation. On 16 October 2017, she was assassinated by a car bomb near her home. An international consortium of 45 journalists continued her investigative work as The Daphne Project. The European Parliament press room in Strasbourg was named in her honour. A public inquiry found the Maltese state bore responsibility for creating an atmosphere of impunity.
