Daniel Pearl was an American journalist and South Asia bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal. In January 2002, while investigating links between al-Qaeda and the Pakistani intelligence services in Karachi, he was kidnapped. He was murdered by his captors in February 2002. His death became a defining moment in the post-9/11 era and highlighted the extreme dangers faced by journalists investigating terrorism and intelligence networks.
