d. 2025

Journalist Al Jazeera Palestine & Gaza Gaza City, Gaza Palestinian

Anas al-Sharif was a 28-year-old Palestinian journalist and videographer for Al Jazeera Arabic, born in the Jabalia refugee camp. As a child, he appeared on Al Jazeera during the 2008 Gaza war and said he wanted to be a journalist. He became the thread running through the deaths of his colleagues — he was there when Ismail al-Ghoul’s body was brought in, there when Samer Abudaqa bled out, reported on each of their deaths. In November 2023, the Israeli military called him and told him to stop reporting, then bombed his family home, killing his father. In 2024, his Reuters team won a Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography. On 10 August 2025, he was killed in a targeted strike on a media tent at Al-Shifa hospital along with four colleagues.
