Abdul Shariff was an Associated Press photographer killed in crossfire on 9 January 1994 while covering an African National Congress delegation in the township of Katlehong near Johannesburg. He was among the South African conflict photographers working alongside the Bang-Bang Club during the violent transition from apartheid. Kevin Carter referenced Shariff in his suicide note later that year, listing him alongside Ken Oosterbroek among those he had lost.
